Mayagüez

The west coast’s biggest city, UPR-Mayagüez campus, the Plaza Colón district, and the heaviest JRCM-dispensary footprint west of San Juan.

Mayagüez is the west coast's largest city and the cultural-and-commercial anchor of the entire western part of the island. The University of Puerto Rico—Mayagüez (RUM) campus shapes the city's rhythm and food scene, the Plaza Colón district carries the historic-downtown architecture, and the surrounding municipalities pull commerce toward the city center. The Tropical Agriculture Research Station's botanical gardens are a quieter half-day visit. JRCM-licensed retail in Mayagüez is dense — the heaviest concentration west of San Juan, serving both the local resident-patient population and the visiting flow heading to Rincón or the southern coast. For adults 21+ on a temporary patient registration, Mayagüez works as either a Rincón-weekend supply stop (25 min north) or a one-to-two-night stay in its own right with the city's restaurant scene, the Mayagüez Zoo, and day-trip access to the surrounding west-coast and southern coast.
